Fredericton Youth Sailing School

An Initiative of the Fredericton Yacht Club and
The City of Fredericton

White Rose & Whisper 1895
The Fredericton Yacht Club (FYC) is committed to the establishment of an opportunity for local youth to learn a sport that they can participate in all their lives; a sport that is competitive; and teaches valuable life and safety skills – sailing. The FYC, the New Brunswick Sail Association (NBSA) and the City of Fredericton have taken the initiative to form the Fredericton Youth Sailing School in concert with the Fredericton Small Craft Aquatic Centre.

The objectives of the Fredericton Youth Sailing School are:

·                           Youth sail training for those living in the Fredericton area

·                           Introductory and advanced levels for ages 6 to 18

·                           Provision of nationally recognized safety training

·                           Canadian Yachting Association Certification

·                           Progressive training – Optimist dinghy to 420

·                           Development and provision of CYA certified instructors

·                           Provision of scholarships to increase accessibility to all kids

Our goal is to raise $75,000 from corporate sponsors, interested individuals and granting agencies.

·                           Donations have charitable donation status for income tax purposes through the NBSA.

·                           The boats will be donated to the City by the FYC and subsequently owned by the City.

·                           Revenue levels will cover operating costs as well as the replacement of boats.

·                           The costs of taking the 2-week sailing course will be competitive with other sports camps.

·                           The School will generate civic pride and enhance the usage of the St. John River.

·                           Corporate sponsorship will be visible all summer in the downtown river area.

·                           Financial assistance will be available to disadvantaged kids.

·                           Major sponsors will be noted in regular press releases and WebPages.

·                           The FYC relationship with the City will be enhanced.

How can you help?  We will need your assistance in raising money by soliciting potential sponsors, raising awareness in your neighbourhood, submitting ideas, promoting the school to potential students and of course donating to the cause:
